I still cannot get over the fact about yesterday’s surprise dinner. Still enthralled, still amazed, still touched me so much, still surprised. Well, it’s called a surprise dinner after all isn’t?
Ok
where to begin now?
Right,
so there I was feeling bitter for many weeks thinking that people had actually
forgotten about my birthday, and then I received a phone call from Xiang Ting
on 30th of November.
She
asked me out for a dinner, just the two of us. And boy, you have completely no
idea how thrilled and excited I was, considering it was JUST a dinner. But I
wouldn’t have expected more either, when I didn’t even had expected anything
from the beginning.
So.
I had a little difficult time browsing through my wardrobe looking for
something nice but not TOO nice to wear. Or else people might call me la-di-da for
being overdressed! In the end, I picked out my favourite yellow sleeveless top
matched with a skinny jean, and black heels that my mom just bought on that
day. Perfecto, and off I went.
Trust
me. I was shaking from inside out all the way to Pit Stop Kitchen, Kuchai Lama.
As
I stepped in the romantic restaurant, I spotted Xiang Ting with a flowery white
sleeveless top waving frantically to me. I sat down, and she handed me A Love Letter to My Girlfriend (awwwwwww)
it’s not a book, mind you.
I
let out a huge breath and calmed myself down. Then. My world became pitched
black.
Somebody
covered my eyes up. I felt the a-little-chubby fingers, and … it was Yen
Theng! I just couldn’t stop saying, oh
my god oh my god oh my god. Without even being able to compose myself yet,
Vivian Chong popped out of no where wearing with this beautiful and flawless
rosy pink dress.
I
shrieked, literally.
And
the most unbelievable thing is, Clement Phang suddenly came into my sight and
said, “Hi, I just passed by here!”
That
feeling was just incredible! Absolutely beyond words I can explain. Eyes were
brimmed with tears as I see 4 of my favourite best friends surrounded me. Gee.
The
funny thing is, I was just texting all of them few hours ago and nobody showed
any sign that they were gonna be appeared in the restaurant!
I
just messaged Clement about the NS placement and stuff. And he told me he was
going to take a nap. That was about half
an hour before the dinner.
And
Vivian Chong asked me what plans I have for my birthday today. That was just in the morning on the surprise dinner
day.
Woah.
HOW CAN I NOT BE AMAZED?
Finally
composed myself and relaxed down. We talked, and talked and talked almost about
everything, from SPM exam to Justin Bieber to Clement’s church mate to menstruation
(I know this may sound weird) how our school used to look like to the boys in
our class to Prom Night to our future career. It was just SO awesome and
hilarious.
A
few of the jokes that I remembered:
Clement:
For the drink, I would like to have less ice.
Waiter:
Ok, how many cubes?
(the
waiter is VERY super-duper-uber adorable)
Me:
XX’s stomach cramp is so serious. I meant she even said she got dizzy when it
happens.
Xiang
Ting: Yeah! I experienced that before.
Clement:
Me too, when I was 6 years old.
Me:
What the hell? Clement, we’re talking about menstruation here. You’ve reached
puberty at the age of 6?!
And
many, many more.
Before
we started filling up our stomach, Clement asked everyone to wish something for
the birthday girl. A traditional in his family, usually when they celebrate
their grandmother's birthday.
Xiang
Ting: I hope that you'll find your prince charming!
Vivian
Chong: Stay like this forever, be happy!
Clement:
Stay healthy, that's the most important one isn't it?
Yen
Theng: Hope that you'll have a successful future, excellent results, have a
beautiful family ... (lots to say haha)
At
one point when we’re bloated after finishing our dinner, Clement beckoned the
waiter and whispered something to him. And there came, the cake! Or cakes to be
specific.
He
bought 5 slices of cakes with all different flavours because he didn’t know
which one I like. That is just so attentive and sweet.
By
9.30pm, we hugged and they left one by one, with Xiang Ting accompanying me
because my parents had not arrived yet.
And
you know how this all came about? She then, revealed the whole story.
Their
actual plan was to come to my house and surprise me while I was going for my
tuition today. And they worked along with my parents - secretly about the
surprise. I can’t believe that my parents knew about it, and I didn’t realize a
thing!
My
mom suggested them to surprise me during today’s karaoke celebration with my
relatives. But they didn’t want to interrupt our family occasion so oh well.
And
I realized, when Xiang Ting told me to ask my parents whether I’m allowed to go
for the dinner. They already knew about it, before hand! That made the whole
getting-permission-to-go-out thing just so silly.
Ah.
I’m still couldn’t get over it.
It
might sound simple for you, but for me - it was the best birthday celebration I
ever had in my entire 17 years of life. And that’s what all that matters right?
Mission
accomplished magnificently, my friends.
You
got me! :)
Lots and lots
and lots and lots of love and thanks to you guys, Regina.
